Find their fleet and sink it first

Battleship online

Play Battleship online with a friend or against a bot. Both fleets of five ships are placed randomly on a 10×10 grid — guess where your opponent’s ships are and sink them all before they sink yours.

Battleship is a game of hidden information, and that makes it cheat-proof: your opponent’s fleet never leaves the server until you sink it. There is simply nothing in the browser to inspect.

How to play

  1. Each player has five ships of length 5, 4, 3, 3 and 2 on a 10×10 grid.
  2. Ships are placed automatically and randomly at the start. They lie horizontally or vertically and never touch side by side — corners may touch.
  3. Players take turns. Hit a ship and you fire again — until you miss or sink that ship.
  4. A sunk ship is revealed in full, and the cells along its sides are always water.
  5. The first player to sink all five enemy ships wins.

Strategy

  • While hunting, fire on every other square. The smallest ship is two long, so half the board is enough.
  • After a hit, fire around it in a plus shape. You keep the turn while you hit, so you can often finish a ship in one go.
  • When two hits line up, stay on that axis. Ships are straight.
  • Don’t fire along the sides of a sunk ship — nothing is there. The corner cells can still hide a ship.

Frequently asked

Can my opponent see where my ships are?

No. Your fleet lives only on the server and the client is sent nothing but what it has already uncovered. Not even open devtools will reveal a position.

Do I get another shot for a hit?

Yes. A hit lets you fire again until you miss. Sinking a ship ends your turn.

Can I place my ships myself?

No. Both fleets are placed randomly and fairly, so the game starts right away and nobody gains an edge from placement.

Can ships touch each other?

Not side by side, but corners may touch. Two ships never lie directly next to each other, but they can meet diagonally.
